Human beings are constantly trying to imagine the Supreme Being
(which is formless) in a form (murti or statue or idol) to offer worship,
prayers, pujas and rituals. People want the murtis of gods to be the costliest,
tallest and biggest. Here is a list of top 10 tallest Hindu God Murtis (Statue
or idols) in the World. Currently the tallest Hindu murti is the Shiva at Sanga
in Nepal which was inaugurated in 2010.
1,Shiva Kailash Nath Mahadev at Sanga in Nepal – 143 feet (45 meter)
World’s tallest statue of Hindu God Shiva will be inaugurated in Nepalon
June 21, 2010. The
108-feet tall idol of Shiva is located at Sanga, which is on the way
from Kathmandu to Banepa. Sanga is around 20 km from Kathmandu. The
picture of the Shiva idol shows him holding a Trishul and one hand is in
blessing posture. The murti (idol) is made of cement and can withstand minor
earth quakes and strong wind.
The project is sponsored by Kamal Jain and is dedicated to Shiva
who resides at Kailash which is further north of Sanga. The center and the park
were the idol is situated has facilities like spa, yoga, meditation center, and
nature walks.
Though the spot was not intended as a place of attraction,
thousands of people are already thronging the place to have glimpse of the huge
Shiva idol.
2,Murugan Murti at Batu Caves in Malaysia –
140 feet (42. 7 meter)
Sri Subramaniar Temple or famously known as
Batu Caves sits majestically about 13 km from downtown Kuala Lumpur. This 116
years old main temple, dedicated to Lord Murugan is lodged in a cave about 400
feet above ground level. Batu Caves is a set of caverns in the limestone rock
hill which is recognized as one of Malaysia’s national treasuries in 2007..The
Batu Caves Temple in Malaysia stands out as a monumental focal point of the
significant contribution made by the Indian settlers in the development of
Malaya and then Malaysia A flight of 272 steps leads up to the temple. The
stairway is divided into steps which each lead to a landing. Along the
balustrade of the staircase and at some of the landings that offers the least
competition from their fellows, the resident long-tailed macaques hang around
unceremoniously for treats for visitors.

Paritala nearVijayawada in Andhra Pradesh in India – 135 feet

Shiva at Murudeshwara in Karnataka in India –

Murudeshwara is
a town in the Bhatkal Taluk of Uttara
Kannada district in the state of Karnataka, India. "Murudeshwara" is another name of
the Hindu god Shiva. Famous for the world's second-tallest Shiva
statue, Murudeshwara beach town lies on the coast of the Arabian Sea and is also famous for
the Murudeshwara Temple. The nearest airport to Murudeshwar is Mangalore International Airport at distance of 160 kilometre .Murudeshwar has railway
station on Konkan railway route.
Shiva as Mangal Mahadev in Ganga Talao in Mauritius– 108

Known as Mangal Mahadev, this Statue is the World's 3rd Tallest Statue of Lord Shiva. It is located near Ganga Talao (lake) in Mauritius Island. It stands 108 Feet Tall. Hanuman Murti at Nandura in Maharashtra in India –
105 feet (32 meter)
The Third Tallest Statue of Lord Hanuman is
situated at Nandura in Buldhana district of Maharashtra. It is a Marvellous 105
ft tall statue with oustanding white looks. The Statue is near the National
Highway no. 6 and can be very well sported of from there. The Statue is the

Shiva of the Har-ki-Pauri at Haridwar in
Uttarakhand in India – 100 feet (30.5 meter)
The World's Fourth Largest Statue of Lord Shiva
is located at the banks of river Ganga in the auspicious city of Haridwar. It
is a fascinating idol of Lord shiva where in the Lord Shiva is in standing
posture with a Trishul in his hand and a snake in his neck. It is a 100 feet
Tall statue of Shiva i.e. around 30.5 meter tall. This makes it rank 4th

Ganesha - Chinmaya Ganadhish at Kolhapur in
Maharashtra inIndia – 85 feet (26 meter)
The 66 feet Ganesha statue is the world tallest statue
present in presiding deity of the Chinmaya Sandeepany Ashram situated on the
Pune-Bangalore National highway 4, Kolhapur, Maharashtra. The Chinmaya
Ganadhish idol in Kolhapur seated on the 24 feet Dhyana Nilayam with the actual
height of statue 66 feet, hence the Chinmaya Ganadhish statue stands 90 feet
from the ground up and become a world tallest idol of Lord Ganesha. The Idol was constructed with cement & concrete with a
18 month work of approximately 50+ skilled workers. The Lord Ganesha Statue was
open for public on the day of the Golden Jubilee year of the Chinmaya movement
18th November, 2001.
The Sandeepany Ashram's world tallest Ganapati idol is not like
the idols created during Ganesh Chaturthi but its a permanent statue for worshiped
whole years by the devotee.
Hanuman of Carapichaima in Trinidad and
Tobago – 85 feet (26 meter)
Located in Carapichaima Trinidad, this 85-foot
murti representing the Hindu Deity Hanuman is reputed to be the largest of its
kind outside of India. The murti stands on the grounds of the Dattatreya Yoga
Centre and Mandir. The murti took two years to construct and was consecrated in
2003.
