சவுதி அரேபியாவில் ஹரமைன் என அழைக்கப்படும் அதிவேக ரயில் திட்டத்தின் கீழ் ஜித்தா வழியாக மக்கா மற்றும் மதீனா ஆகிய புனித நகரங்களுக்கு இடையில் அமைக்கப்படும் அதிவேக ரயில் சேவையின் பணிகள் நிறைவடையும் தருணத்தில் உள்ளதாக தெரிவிக்கப்படுகிறது,
இதன் மூலம் இரு புனித நகரங்களுக்கு இடையே 90 நிமிடங்களில் பயணம் செய்யலாம்.
இந்த ரயில் பாதையின் தூரம் 453 கிலோமீட்டராகும். மணிக்கு இந்த ரயில் 300 கிலோமீட்டர் வேகத்தில் செல்லும். ஆண்டுக்கு 30 இலட்சம் மக்கள் இந்த ரயில் தடத்தில் பயணம் செய்வார்கள் என எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud will officially inaugurate Haramain high-speed rail line connecting the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah in a ceremony on Tuesday, Saudi Arabia’s new Haramain High-Speed Railway opened to the public on Thursday, whisking travelers between Makkah and Madinah through King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) in Rabigh and Jeddah.
The 450 km-long rail line will connect Makkah, Jeddah, King Abdul Aziz International Airport, King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh and Madinah, the longest electric speed train network in the Middle East.
The high-speed train will reduce journey time between Makkah and Jeddah to 21 minutes, Jeddah to King Abdul Aziz Airport to 14 minutes, King Abdul Aziz Airport to Rabigh to 36 minutes and Rabigh to Madinah to 61 minutes.A fleet of 35 trains will initially operate eight trips per day in both directions (four trips each way), increasing to 12 early next year. Each train can at speeds of up to 300kph and carry up to 417 people.
The distance between Makkah and Madinah would be covered in less than two hours, which is less than half the time that it takes to cover the same distance by road.
Authorities said 70 per cent of the 3,000 employees that will manage operate and maintain the network are Saudi nationals.
The line is expected to reach a capacity of 60 million passengers per year when service frequency is increased from the first quarter of 2019.
The Haramain Express train website will allow passengers to book and buy tickets by October 2018, and an app will also be launched. The prices of tickets will vary depending on the class and the destination and would start at SAR20 (Dh19.5).
For the opening of the rail line, an offer of 50 percent off in ticket prices for two months starting from October will apply, according to Rumaih.
