மதுரை வடக்கம்பட்டி முனியாண்டி கோயில் பிரியாணி திருவிழா !! ஒரு சிறப்பு பார்வை..

மதுரை மாவட்டம் கள்ளிக்குடி அருகே உள்ள வடக்கப்பட்டியில் முனியாண்டி சாமி கோவில் உள்ளது. அங்கு ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் தை மாதம் 2–வது வெள்ளிக்கிழமை விழா நடத்தி அன்னதானமாக பிரியாணி வழங்கப்படும்.

நேற்று காலையில் விழா தொடங்கியது. பக்தர்கள் பால்குடம் எடுத்து ஊர் வலமாக சென்று முனியாண் சாமிக்கு அபிஷேகம் செய்து விபூதி, எலுமிச்சை பழ மாலை அணிவித்து அலங்காரம் செய்தனர். 

கிராம மக்கள் பால்குடம் எடுத்து வந்து சாமிக்கு பாலாபிஷேகம் நடத்தினர். மாலையில் பொதுமக்கள் திரண்டு பூ, பழம், தேங்காய், பரிவட்டம் அடங்கிய அபிஷேக தட்டுகளை ஏந்தி, நிலைமாலையை எடுத்து கொண்டு மேளதாளம் முழங்க மூன்று கிராமத்தின் (பொட்டல்பட்டி – அலங்காரபுரம் சென்று மீண்டும் வடக்கப்படடி) வழியாக ஊர்வலமாக வந்து கோயிலினை அடைந்தனர்.

பூ தட்டு ஊர்வலத்தில் கலந்துகொண்ட பக்தர்கள் சாமிக்கு பலியிட ஆடுகள் மற்றும் சேவல்களையும் உடன் அழைத்து வந்தனர். தொடர்ந்து முனியாண்டி மற்றும் கருப்பசாமிக்கு சிறப்பு அபிஷேகம், ஆராதனைகள் நடைபெற்றது. பக்தர்களுக்கு சர்க்கரை பொங்கல் வழங்கப்பட்டது. இதில் ஆயிரணக்கணக்கான பக்தர்கள் பங்கேற்றனர். இதனை தொடர்ந்து வாணவேடிக்கை நடைபெற்றது. நள்ளிரவில் சக்தி கிடாய், முதலில் சாமிக்கு பலியிடப்பட்டது. 

தொடர்ந்து மண்பானையில் வெண்பொங்கல் வைக்கப்பட்டு முனியாண்டி சாமிக்கும், நேர்த்திகடனான கோயிலுக்கு வழங்கிய ஆடுகள், சேவல்கள் வெட்டப்பட்டு அசைவ பிரியாணி தயாரிக்கப்பட்டு கருப்பணசாமிக்கும் படைக்கப்பட்டது. அதிகாலை முதல் பிரசாதமாக அசைவ பிரியாணி பக்தர்களுக்கு வினியோகம் செய்யப்பட்டது. இந்தாண்டு 150 ஆடுகள் மற்றும் 150 சேவல்கள் 3000 கிலோ அரிசி கொண்டு அசைவ பிரியாணி தயாரிக்கப்பட்டது. அதிகாலையில் முனியாண்டி சாமிக்கும், கருப்பண்ண சாமிக்கு பூஜை செய்தனர். பின்னர் பிரியாணியை பொது மக்களுக்கு வழங்கினார்கள். 10 ஆயிரத்திற்கும் மேற்பட்டவர்கள் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

Biriyani Festival for Muniyandi God Temple in Madurai..

A whopping 2,100 kg of rice, 83 goats and about 300 roosters — these were the primary ingredients for arguably the biggest biriyani festival in the State.

Thousands of people converged on the village of Vadakkampatti in Tirumangalam, Madurai, for the bi-annual festival at the Sri Muniyandi Sami temple on Friday night.

Devotees began thronging the temple from the wee hours of Saturday to receive a portion of the lip-smacking feast, a unique ‘prasadam’ unheard of in other temples.

“We neither cook biriyani at home, nor do we eat at hotels. So we never miss the Muniyandi Sami biriyani,” said Pandiammal, an elderly woman who stood in the serpentine queue for four hours to get her hands on some biriyani.

People who have made a donation collected special tokens from the organisers and took a detour to collect their prasadam, while others had to fight it out. Depending on the donation, people were given biriyani in small buckets or in plastic packets.

However, Vadakampatti’s original claim to fame is not the biriyani but being the birthplace of the famous Muniyandi Vilas hotels found throughout Tamil Nadu and even in neighboring states.

According to folklore, the village deity, Muniyandi Sami, appeared in the dream of Subbaiah Naidu and gave him the idea of starting a hotel.

After he started the first hotel in Karaikudi in the early 1930s, generations from the village have migrated and set up hotels, most in the name of Madurai Sri Muniyandi Vilas.
