B. Sc (Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology) Degree Course..


B. Sc Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology is an UG course that is offered by only a few colleges in India and this course extends to a period of three years like other Bachelor of Science courses. The course is designed for students who wish to study biology with an emphasis on applications. As most of us know, biotechnology is technology based on biology particularly when used in medicine, food science and agriculture and plant biology. On the other hand, biotechnology deals with the study of biology of plants.

Institutions and universities offering plant biology as a course are rare. Plant biology is a division of biological. Plant biology is usually a post graduation course. There are some institutions which offer plant biology as a graduation level course. Plant biology is also a part of biotechnology. Students can apply for these courses in the graduation level without appearing any entrance exams. Some of the institutions provide post graduation courses in plant biology. There are no such particular entrance exams for plant biology in the graduation level.
The candidates can appear for biology entrance exams. The score of biology entrance exams are considered by some institutions. There are courses such as B.A microbiology and B. Sc Biotechnology which includes plant biology as subjects. More over there is B.Sc plant biology course offered by some institutions. The students opting for post graduation can go for M.Sc or M Phil in plant technology.

In addition to these government colleges, some of the popular private colleges are also offering Bachelor of Science in Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology as a full-time three-year course.


Eligibility requirement for seeking admission to the B. Sc Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology course:
For seeking admission to the B. Sc Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology course in the afore-mentioned colleges, candidates must have completed their higher secondary examination with chemistry, biology/botany subjects. In addition, candidates should also have secured good percentage of marks in these subjects

After successful completion of this UG course in Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology, students can go for M. Sc Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology, which is being offered by some government and private colleges in India. In addition, students with interest towards research activities can also take up Ph. D in Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology after completion of their Master’s degree course in the same subject.

Exam Pattern of Plant Biology Entrance Exams
The entrance exam for plant biology is conducted for two hours. The questions asked will be objective type. The question paper is basically divided into three sections. The core subjects included in the questions are Botany, Bio chemistry, Genetics and Micro biology. The plant molecular biology entrance exam consists of only 25 questions. Wrong answers are not accepted and it will affect the total marks. The students are supposed to attend the interview after the entrance exam. Selection of the candidates is done after evaluating the score in the entrance exam and the performance in the interview.

How to procure the admission for these exams?
For appearing in these entrance exams the candidates should get application forms either from the concerned institutions/universities. The institutions also have online option for applying for the exams. Candidates should reemit the fee for the entrance exam. Filled application form, certificate details and details of fee remitted has to be sent along with this application.
After the completion of post graduation in plant biology, the students can get higher career opportunities in this sector.
