Samsung C&T Awarded $ 310 Million Project in Malaysia..

Samsung C&T, the construction division of South Korea’s largest conglomerate, is to build the $310m Star Development in the centre of Kuala Lumpur. The contract was awarded to it by Alpine Return, a joint venture between Malaysian property developers UMLand and Symphony Life. 

Samsung C&T is well-known around the world to successfully deliver landmark projects with great emphasis on quality, on-time delivery, safety and compliance. The company is best known for the construction of Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is currently the world’s tallest building and Malaysia’s Petronas Twin Towers, ranked the sixth tallest in the world.

As such, the signing is a fitting partnership as Star Development’s 58 storeys high vertical structure is set to be the tallest residential tower in the KLCC vicinity once fully completed in 2019. Star Development which is backed by two reputable property developers in Malaysia - Symphony Life Berhad (Symphony Life) and United Malayan Land Berhad (UMLand Bhd) will comprise Star Residences - luxurious residential homes, and Star Boulevard - exciting Signature Retail F&B and Entertainment Hub with a total estimated Gross Development Value (GDV) of RM3 billionand development, having participated in large-scale projects including the Petronas Twin Towers.

The award signing ceremony simultaneously witnessed the ground breaking of Star Development with Guest of Honour for the night, Minister of Tourism, YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz together with the development’s ambassador, Datuk Professor (Dr) Jimmy Choo OBE; Tun Musa Hitam, Non Executive Chairman of UMLand Bhd; Tan Sri Azman Yahya, Executive Chairman of Symphony Life; Dato Ng Eng Tee, Deputy Executive Chairman of UMLand Bhd and Mr Chi Hun Choi, President & Chief Executive Officer of Samsung C&T.

YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz in his speech quoted, “We have always welcomed projects of this stature in our country, one that is keen to break boundaries and revolutionise architecture. Star Development with its unique Star Walk of Fame I believe, will once again put Malaysia on the map as a landmark structure that will eventually become a tourist attraction.”

Tan Sri Azman Yahya added during the signing ceremony, “We are pleased to entrust our ambitious project, Star Development to Samsung C&T for its outstanding project delivery record of core competencies and sky scraper expertise in major cities around the world.”

He added, “Star Residences’s first phase will include Residential Tower 1 offering 557 premier lifestyle units. RT1 will represent ultimate living with exquisite facilities at H2O@Level6 and O3@Level69 (sky park), to complement one’s modern lifestyle. We are happy to announce that to date, we are 80% sold with a 75% local and 25% foreign purchaser ratio.”

Star Boulevard will have a 6-storey Signature Retail F&B and Entertainment Hub with an approximate total net lettable area of 130,000sf. It boasts lifestyle amenities to cater for Star residents, offices, visitors as well as the professionals within the surrounding areas.

Additionally, Star Development will feature Malaysia’s first and only Star Walk of Fame - a 200 metre long stretch featuring both local and international celebrities, similar to Hollywood’s Walk of Fame and Hong Kong’s Avenue of Stars. Following Datuk Jimmy Choo’s induction as the first international celebrity into the Star Walk of Fame with an imprint of his hands recently, the Walk of Fame is expected to draw other celebrities into what is set to be Malaysia’s newest Tourist destination.
  
He further added, “Samsung C&T is thankful and honoured for the opportunity to re-establish its presence in Kuala Lumpur with Star Development which will complement the Petronas Twin Towers in architecture and design once completed.”

Samsung will build three residential high-rises: two will fit 58 storeys into 265m, and the third will be one storey shorter. Once complete, these structures will be among the tallest residential towers in Kuala Lumpur. 

Alongside them will be the Star Boulevard, a retail and entertainment centre. The main draw here is a Malaysian version of Hollywood Boulevard’s “Walk of Fame”, which is where tourist go to see the handprints of actors outside the Chinese Theatre. This version will stretch for 200m and will memorialise local and international celebrities.

Chi Hun Choi, the president and chief executive of Samsung C&T, said:

Samsung C&T has considerable experience with challenging projects, having built the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, presently the tallest building the in the world. Construction work has begun and is expected to be completed by 2019.
